CPD credits: 3. Provider: Nelson Mandela Univ. - Innoventon (SAIChE-SPV-006)
Practical training and theoretical background on Data Analysis using Excel.
Statistical data analysis using Excel as a tool.
CPD credits: Valid from 2024/01/31 to 2027/01/31.
The possibilities of spreadsheets are generally underestimated. By employing the data analysis functions, you can increase your understanding of your data and subsequently improve decision-making.
Participants will acquire a working knowledge of the following:
- How to obtain summaries of a given data set (Descriptive statistics), identify patterns or trends and use Z-scores to identify outliers.
- How to perform inferential statistical analysis such as calculation of confidence intervals, t-tests, ANOVA, etc.
- How to perform simple and multiple regression analysis on given data and the validation and use of such regression models to define optimum conditions, robust operating conditions, consistent quality performance, etc.
- How to apply regression methods to mixture designs and use the resulting model to optimize the control variables.
You will analyse real and relevant data sets under the guidance of the lecturer. The course emphasis is on interpretation of computer output rather than on calculations. Participants are evaluated by completing a test on the work covered.
Who should attend?
Scientists, engineers and technologists who want to analyse their data by using practical statistical methods available in Excel.
Course requirements:
- A good working knowledge of Excel. No previous knowledge of inferential statistics is required.
- A personal laptop with the genuine software MS Excel & memory stick to download course material.
