Retired Professional Engineers and Technologists in the discipline of Chemical, Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Control Scada and Instrumentation

EThekwini Technical Services has a need to supplement its in-house engineering capacity as well as support to its engineering mentorship programs.

THERE ARE TWO CATEGORIES OF EXPERTISE REQUIRED:

Mentorship

The engineering mentorship program currently has more that 50 candidate engineers and technologists and while these candidates are placed in the various departments under a professional engineer/technologist, there is a need to provided oversight, program management, experience assessment, guidance and coordination to these candidates until registration. Applicants MUST have a good understanding and working knowledge of ECSA’s registration requirements.

Expert

Subject/discipline experts are required to provide input into strategic initiatives, projects, and programs.

POTENTIAL APPLICANTS NEED TO MEET THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS:

1. Submit a full CV, including their respective specific discipline and experience in water and/or sanitation
2. Proof of registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer or Professional Technologist.
3. Submit proof of residence within the eThekwini metro area.
4. Have a valid driver’s license.

NOTE: Preference will be given to applicants who have previous local government experience. The work required is parttime and would suit retired Professional Engineers and Technologists.

SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS WILL RECEIVE THE FOLLOWING COMPENSATION:

• An hourly rate payable to be determined (currently a minimum of R1200/hour for engineers and R1000/hour for technologists depending on expertise required at the time) with increases in line with municipal staff increases.
• A travel allowance only if work travel exceeds 500km/month.
